Garh Jaisal is located in the fort and the preservation of our 11th century icon is of the highest priority for us. We have seen efforts over the years by various organizations to protect and preserve and it has made small but positive change. We believe that the fort is important to those who call it home for life or home for a few days. Private homes and hotels are very complimentary in a common neighbourhood, providing we are conscious of our impact along the way and we all make efforts to protect our community. We encourage our guests to ask questions and get involved in making our world sustainable for everyone.
Atmosphere and length of stay:
Many people book for 2 nights and then decide to stay longer as Jaisalmer has so much more than you would expect. Consider making your plans for at least 4 nights, as you may not want to leave the Fort for a couple of days. The palace, Jain temple, main square for people watching and spending time on the rooftop deck in awe of where you are on the planet can take at least 2 days! Then wander through the market and explore the daily life within the streets of the city. Talk to people, play with children, sip a chai and barter for unique handicrafts, jewellery and textiles. Have fun with it!!!
Then take a day and relax and prepare for your trek into the desert, for your trip would not be complete without a few hours on camelback or better yet, stay overnight under the unobstructed sky. The desert is clean, safe and unlike any other experience you will have in India. The camels are friendly and gentle ~ your guides welcome you into their way of life anand are happy to share stories and answer questions.
Again, in preparation for your trip, please feel free to contact us with your questions and for our honest opinion.

Keeping in touch with home: We have complimentary internet access, allowing you to email your friends and family back home. It also allows you to keep in touch with us once you leave. We always like to hear about your journey and life at home!
Camel Safaris: We arrange a special safari into the desert in a "non-tourist" style. This means that you will have jeep transportation to a small village where we pick up the camels. Then we saunter into the desert dunes for sunset. The camp is set up in an area where you will be out of the presence of any other tourists. The guides prepare dinner (you can help if you like) and you pick the location for your camp for the evening and your hosts will prepare your comfortable bed for later. Dinner will be fresh and the conversation interesting! After dinner you can enjoy sharing tales around the fire or you can retire to enjoy the countless stars in the clear desert sky. Bring a warm jacket or sweater, as the desert can be a bit cool at night. You will enjoy a hot chai and breakfast in the morning before you set off on your camel to savour the scenery and allow time for the potency of the experience to settle in before your leisurely drive back to Garh Jaisal. This can be booked with our reservations email. The cost is $50usd per person. We recommend staying an additional night at Garh Jaisal after the camel safari to allow you to relax and refresh!
